Fifty and Better schedules activities year-round, both in-person and virtually, including tours of local museums and galleries, gatherings at events, and more. Continue scrolling to see our current schedule of activities you can join.

For any waitlisted tours/activities, please make sure to add yourself to the waitlist. There is always a chance spots/second tours will open up, but they go to the people on the waitlist first.

 

Fall Activity Classes & Tours

Tour of LACMA (with David Geffen Wing) with Katherine Zoraster

Monday, August 31 from 11:30am-1pm

Aligned with the lecture 鈥淟ACMA Then and Now: The Evolution of Los Angeles鈥 Premier Art Museum,鈥 there will be an optional tour of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art led by instructor Katherine Zoraster. The tour will largely focus on the brand-new David Geffen Galleries which houses the museum鈥檚 permanent collection. 

The David Geffen Galleries has elevators, space for wheelchairs and bench seating scattered across the building. Please note that the building is very large and will require a lot of walking. The floors are solid concrete and can be tiring to walk or stand in for long periods of time. Students can stay and explore the rest of the museum on their own after the tour. 

Cost is $5 per person. Space is limited. Liability waiver must be signed in advance (instructions will be sent in the weeks leading up to the tour). Students must provide their own transportation; FAB cannot assist in arranging carpools. Parking is $23 per car per day, payable upon arrival. Some metered street parking is available near the museum as well.

Zumba Gold with Cheryl Wu Hall

Early Fall Series (5 Weeks): Tuesdays, September 1, 8, 15, 22, & 29 from 11am-12pm

Join Zumba庐 Educational Specialist, Cheryl Wu Hall, for the biggest dance fitness party! These moves are designed for active older adults looking for a fun and easy to follow low-impact workout. Zumba庐 Gold is perfect for active older adults who are looking for a modified Zumba庐 class that recreates the original moves you love at a lower intensity.

The design of the class introduces easy-to-follow Zumba庐 choreography that focuses on balance, range of motion, and coordination. The class focuses on all elements of fitness: cardiovascular, muscular conditioning, flexibility, and balance!

Come ready to sweat and prepare to leave empowered and feeling strong.

Cheryl Wu Hall is a Zumba庐 Fitness international presenter and Education Specialist for Zumba, Zumba Gold and Zumba Step, and a former Master Trainer for STRONG Nation. She has taught Zumba programs for over 17 years and is an AFAA and ACE certified group fitness instructor and CEC/CEU provider. Cheryl is a native of Taiwan and currently resides in Southern California. Certifications: ACE-GFI; AFAA-GFI

Intro to Qigong & Beginning Tai Chi with Jim Belsley

Early Fall Series (5 Weeks): Fridays, September 4, 11, 18, 25, & October 2
Level 1 (Intro to Qigong with Light Tai Chi): 9:45-10:45am
Level 2 (Beginning Tai Chi): 11am-12pm

Level 1 (Intro to Qigong with Light Tai Chi): Tai Chi and Qigong are two forms of exercise recommended by the Harvard Medical School. In this introductory course, we'll use gentle, flowing movements to develop balance, flexibility and strength while learning techniques to release stress and cultivate more energy. Develop and embody mindfulness using posture, movement, and breathing techniques from these beautiful arts. Those new to Tai Chi should begin with this level one class only.

Each series will be cumulative, building upon the skills learned the previous week in each class. 

Level 2 (Beginning Tai Chi): In this level 2 class, we'll learn basic Tai Chi movements, steps and stances and then put them into a Tai Chi short form to develop balance and coordination. With practice of Tai Chi principles, you can increase your strength, flexibility, and mental focus. Supplemental Qigong exercises will also be taught. It is recommended that those new to Tai Chi take the "Level 1: Intro to Qigong with Light Tai Chi" class prior to attending the "Level 2: Beginning Tai Chi" class, or take both classes at the same time.

Each series will be cumulative, building upon the skills learned the previous week in each class.

Chair Yoga with Weights with Anyez Klevecz

Fall Series: Thursdays, September 10, 17, 24, October 1, & 8 from 11:15am-12:15pm

Chair yoga is a gentle form of yoga that can help improve flexibility, mobility, strength, as well as decrease stress and reduce joint strain. No prior yoga experience is necessary. All are welcome. Please join certified yoga instructor Anyez Klevecz to practice seated yoga poses, breath work, and some standing postures and movements using the chairs for support. In this chair yoga class, we will use functional, whole-body movements that support daily life, with joint-friendly resistance woven into familiar yoga postures. Strength, mobility, balance, and breath come together in an integrated way.

Weights are optional but highly recommended.

  • Optional suggested props: 1-2 lb. hand weights and 1-2lb. ankle weights.
  • Optional alternatives: Instead of hand weights, students can use a 16 oz. water bottle or a 15 oz. can of food (such as beans or soup). Instead of ankle weights, you can fill a pair of socks with some grain like rice, make a knot, and then tie around your ankles (if you would like DIY instructions, please let us know). 

Anyez is a yoga alliance certified yoga teacher and has been teaching yoga for over 15 years. She is passionate about supporting students in their journey to better health and peace of mind. Our gentle, slow-paced yoga class focuses on improving flexibility and mobility, building foundational strength, and increasing balance. We will incorporate breath practices for relaxation. The poses will include standing, balancing, seated, and supine postures. Suitable for all levels, with chairs available for assistance getting up and down from the floor.

Anyez is a yoga alliance certified yoga teacher and has been teaching yoga for over 15 years. She is passionate about supporting students in their journey to better health and peace of mind. She is a student of yoga philosophy, ayurveda, mindfullness, and many holistic approaches to bring more ease to our modern lifestyle.

Tour of JPL with Optional Bus Transportation

Tuesday, September 15, 1-3pm

Join us for this exciting tour of NASA鈥檚 Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) at the California Institute of Technology! This tour will begin with an overview of the Laboratory鈥檚 activities and accomplishments and may include visits to the von Karman Visitor Center, the Space Flight Operations Facility, and the Spacecraft Assembly Facility.

The tour includes considerable walking and stair climbing. With prior notice, accommodations can be made for individuals with wheelchairs. All attendees must present official, government-issued photo identification before being allowed entry.

There are a limited number of spaces for bus transportation from Cal Lutheran and back. Tour spaces are limited to 30 attendees (20 for bus travelers, with 2 those of those spaces available to individuals using wheelchairs; the remaining spaces are for those who wish to drive themselves). Liability waiver must be signed in advance (instructions will be sent in the weeks leading up to the tour).

Cost with bus transportation: $65

Cost without bus transportation (drive yourself): $5

The Art of Watercolor with Hope Jordan

Fall Series (6 Weeks): Fridays, October 16, 23, 30, November 6, 13, & 20 from 2-4pm

In this six-session watercolor class, students will learn the foundations of watercolor painting, including brush control, color mixing, washes, layering, and simple composition. Designed for beginners, the class emphasizes hands-on practice and exploration of techniques that build confidence with this expressive medium. By the end of the class, students will have created a series of small studies and a final piece that reflects their growing skills and personal style.

Registration cost for six-week summer series: $114 (plus the cost of materials)

Hope Jordan, born in Argentina and raised between England and the United States, brings a global perspective to her art and teaching. Descending from a family of artists, her creativity has always been nurtured by a love of cultures, languages, and diverse forms of expression.

Her artistic journey has taken her through multiple mediums鈥攇raphite illustration, oil painting, photography, digital art, and sculpture鈥攂ut watercolor remains one of her most beloved practices. She is drawn to its delicacy, spontaneity, and transformative qualities, which mirror the very process of learning. For Hope, watercolor is about both precision and freedom: attention to detail balanced with a willingness to let the medium surprise you.

As an educator, she values process as much as product. Her teaching emphasizes exploration, patience, and vulnerability鈥攈elping students discover that art grows when we let down our guard and connect authentically with our subject. She strives to create a classroom environment that is encouraging, hands-on, and reflective, where students not only learn technique but also discover confidence, creativity, and joy in their own work.

Hope considers teaching art an extension of her lifelong creative journey: a way to share her passion, inspire others, and affirm that the act of creating is both healing and deeply rewarding.

Intro to Qigong & Beginning Tai Chi with Jim Belsley

Tour of the WFVZ Bird Museum & Research Center

Wednesday, July 22, 10am, Camarillo - WAITLISTED

Join us for a guided tour of the museum, hearing about science and birds and looking at specimens. This guided tour will take 30 minutes, followed by 30 minutes of self-guided museum exploration looking at the various displays and collections. The museum is accessible. Space is limited. Cost $12. "Stuff the Bus" Volunteer Opportunity

Join Fifty and Better as we join the United Way to stuff backpacks for deserving children in Ventura County. Space is incredibly limited.
