Reel Madness: Loving as Madness With Don Juan DeMarco

One portraying a man with Don Juan's personality and the other a man with obsessive-compulsive disorder, Johnny Depp and Jack Nicholson reveal in two Oscar-nominated films that the "best part of love is losing all sense of reality." Marlon Brando and Faye Dunaway co-star with Depp in 鈥淒on Juan DeMarco鈥 (1994), and Helen Hunt and Greg Kinnear join Nicholson in 鈥淎s Good as It Gets鈥 (1997). On each of two evenings, the Reel Madness series will show a film, followed by discussion by a panel of CLU professors from various disciplines.
On this first evening, 鈥淒on Juan DeMarco鈥 will be shown. Love as a social aberration and psychotic fascination. Shortly before retiring, a psychiatrist encounters a man who has attempted suicide. Who believes himself to be Don Juan, the fabled lover. Move over Don Quixote, a strange character inversion in this wonderous play on personality disorder.
